The Muse
You can thank Wednesday's snow storm for giving you a second chance to attend the opening reception of Wolfgang Joop - Fashion Fantasy, at the LUMAS New York, SoHo location, gallery.

On Feb. 18, from 6-8 p.m., the gallery will celebrate this new addition to their space. The opening was supposed to kick off the start of New York Fashion Week. Now it will close it out...
The German fashion designer doesn't show in New York (in fact Americans know him for his fragrance line more than anything else) but is certainly an internationally-renowned figure in the industry. From fashion editor, to designer, to professor and beyond, now he'll be praised for yet another talent of his: painting.
The exhibition focuses mainly on Joop's works between 2000 and 2007. I like to describe them as "sketches on steroids!" Lumas gallery will actually be hosting a sketch artist at Thursday's event to draw willing guests in honor of the nature of Joop's work.
Here are my favorites from the show:

Black Night, Gold Dress, “Color,” 2000/2009, Lambda Color Print, two sizes: 55.1 x 39.4 inches, Signed, Limited Edition of 100 & 29.1 x 21.3 Inches, Pigment Print on Hahnemuhle, Signed, Limited Edition of 100

Haute Noir, “Black and White,” 2000/2009, Lambda Color Print, 55.1 x 39 Inches, Signed, Limited Edition of 100

Wunderkind 2, “Color,” 2007/2009, Lambda Color Print, 55.1 x 43.3 Inches, Signed, Limited Edition of 100

L’Ange Capture, “Color,” 2003/2009, Lambda Color Print, two sizes: 55.1 x 39.4 Inches, Signed, Limited Edition of 100 & 29.1 x 21.3 Inches, Pigment Print on Hahnemuhle, Signed, Limited Edition of 100

Black Fox, “Black and White,” 2000/2009, Lambda Color Print, 55.1 x 39 Inches, Signed, Limited Edition of 100
And on a sadder note, we would be remiss if we mentioned Fashion Week without addressing the loss of trailblazing fashion designer Alexander McQueen. And especially as we continue to celebrate all things art this Jan/Feb, as his shows were to me, the perfect example of live installation art.
Happy early Valentine's Day everyone!
