Bosch Introduces VitaFresh at Hundred Acres Restaurant
Associate Publisher Loren Arethas, Design Editor Nicole Haddad, and I were treated yesterday to a delicious luncheon at Hundred Acres restaurant.
But we weren't just there to stuff our faces. We went to experience Bosch's VitaFresh technology.
According to Bosch Home Appliances it's the only US appliance manufacturer with entire product lines of Energy Star ® qualified dishwashers, washers, and refrigeration. They've also earned the Energy Star Partner of the Year Award for Appliances two years in a row! So it's no surprise that they're leading the charge on keeping food fresher and longer, saving customers hundreds of dollars in spoiled fruits and vegetables.
A University of Arizona study found the average US household throws out nearly a quarter of the fruits and vegetables they buy. For a family of four, that adds up to about $500 a year. Bosch is hoping VitaFresh will change that.
The French Door refrigerator, revealed at the event housed bins that utilized VitaFresh, and executives and engineers explained how, thanks to the technology, air movement is on top of the drawers, rather than in, providing indirect cooling. The system keeps foods fresher MUCH longer than traditional storage.

But Bosch didn't want to just tell its guests, they wanted to prove it. After the presentation, a variety of stations were set up for visitors to see, taste, smell, touch, and even hear the added freshness.
Here's a picture of Loren snapping celery stalks in front of a RadioShack Sound Level Meter, to hear the difference in crispness between those in a traditional refrigerator and one using VitaFresh technology.

We tasted apples that had been housed in VitaFresh bins for a month and strawberries for five days, both just as tasty and crisp as those that had been in there for less time!

We even smelled stalks of mint much more fragrant those those that came from traditional bins!
The French Door refrigerator with VitaFresh technology is arriving in showrooms now and should be fully available by next month.
Your wallet will thank you.
